Why Did the Cows Run Away?
An Israeli Musical Tale for Baroque Ensemble and Narrator

What does a Jewish boy do when sent alone to harvest fields in pre-WWII Germany? He turns his back for a moment and loses the cows, of course. Will the cows be found? Who will come to his aid? And will he learn his lesson when he grows up to be a farmer in the young Land of Israel?

The “Alma Consort & Friends” Baroque Ensemble presents a fresh narrative musical production centered on a tale of adventure from the early days of the Yishuv. The story explores the ingenuity of cows and youthful farmers, neighborly relations under a draconian regime, a tractor with a moped engine, and a mule named Bill who dared to display independent thought.

Based on the stories of Paul-Werner Meyer.

Yael Ender: soprano

Noam Gal: baroque violin

Sonia Bienenfeld-Navot: viola da gamba

Guy Pardo: harpsichord

Alma Meyer: wind instruments (cornetto, recorder, dulcian) and musical direction
